We use balance training techniques to offer a lifelong obedient pup. Balance training teaches a dog desired behaviors using both reward-based techniques as well as a correction with the use of the mini educator by E-collar Technologies.
We believe in training a dog to have a life of obedience. With quick turnaround programs offered by larger facilities, the dog learns to pass a test and then goes home to often go right back into those old habits.
Think about this: If you took geometry, trigonometry, or even physics in high school but never touched it again after that final test at the end of the year; can you still do it today?? Most will answer NO!
We believe in extending the learning so the dog gets in the routine of being obedient every moment through the day. We do this through over-teaching and constant practice in a home environment.
Larger facilities keep the dog in a shelter style kennel and work them on come, sit, down, and heel for an hour or so a day. Does this teach the dog what to do in their own home? Or how to be calm? Again, the answer is no.
You will be so happy you chose to join the FMK9 family over a larger facility offering shorter and pricier programs.
Have you ever seen a dog walk up to another dog and say "Great job!" and hand over a treat? Probably not. Dogs do not communicate in a reward based way, they communicate through pressure. Pressure comes in many forms and might look like a mama dog gently using her teeth with her pups. It could be seen in the spacial pressure one dog applies to another dog in its territory. It can even be seen in a guarding episode of a resource between two dogs. However, the answer is simple. Dogs use pressure to communicate with one another, so a dog is far more understanding of communication using something they understand.
Additionally, with positive only training, once you run out of treats you run out of Fido listening. Positive only training can not be guaranteed because it is purely choice driven by the dog.
We use the mini educator created by E-collar Technologies which is a humane stimulus collar similar to a tens unit. The collar is worn on a muscle group on the sides of the neck. When the collar stimulates, it causes the muscle to flex. This collar offers a blunt stimulus whereas other brands utilize sharp shocking stimulus. When used correctly, the mini educator is not seen as an aversive technique.
We start our training with leash pressure and low level stimulation of the ecollar to teach commands. Once the collar is understood, it can be used to offer a humane correction offering a cost to your dog for unwanted behaviors. It offers off leash freedom that is able to be understood by your pup and guaranteed by us.
We have used the mini educator to offer off leash obedience to service dogs we have trained.
